Fiji

Hello all!
I was not able to post last week's blog as I was in Fiji and could not get the greatest connection. Regardless, I am still late - oops?
Speaking of Fiji, that is going to be my topic for this week!
I travelled on a plane from Melbourne to Fiji on the 16th of August (with a lot of pain in my ears) and was honestly so excited for the holiday. We were greeted with a group of Fijian men singing a 'Bula' (Hello/Welcome) song, which was an amazing Fijian moment already. Outside of the airport was a town which left me surprised, as I was unaware that Fiji was very poverty ridden.
We arrived at our resort at night, so we were not able to see how beautiful it was, but once we woke up in the morning, it was an amazing sight. We ate some incredible food and I indulged in mocktails, or just an amazing fruit drink. I'd love to recreate some at home.
One of the amazing things we did was snorkel on the island Monuriki - if this doesn't ring a bell, it's where Castaway was filmed! On this trip, we had the chance to visit a village, where we drank Kava - the Fijian culture drink which is a ground up root mixed with water. It has sedatives in it, so that's why the Fijians are all so relaxed. Also on this trip, I spotted a pod of dolphins which swam right up to our boat.

On this day, we visited a village area where we visited the "Jungle Giant," which is just a really big jungle will tall trees. We also visited a little location where we had a lovely mud bath - above photo. We went into a series of thermal pools to wash off the mud and it was pretty gross.

On one of our last days, we took a 4WD tour to some really interesting caves, where we learnt so many things about the past of the Fijian cannibals. Here, we stopped off in a village for lunch and we had brought some little gifts for the kids, which they loved.

Fiji was probably the most amazing country I have ever visited and my family is already planning our trip for next year, which will be even longer and hopefully - if possible - even more fun. I have made a small little video of the events we got up to in Fiji which shows more footage than what I've put here. Let me know and I'll be happy to post the link to that in my next blog.
Thank-you for reading :-)
